As Armed Forces Week approaches, we’re preparing to honour and celebrate the Army, Navy, and RAF for everything they do to serve and protect our country, and for everything they do for the veterans here at Broughton House.
Over the last 12 months, many service men and women have raised money for our residents and have come down to visit us.
The RAF Valley Squadron marked the end of their 80-mile march last year with a visit to Broughton House, presenting us with a commemorative plaque, and donating the funds they raised on their march.
We’ve also had the pleasure of hosting the 206 (NW) Multi-Role Medical Regiment during one of our coffee mornings, and the Cheshire Regiment paid a special visit to our resident Maj (Ret’d) Mike Winstanley to present him with a wonderful plaque. 75 Engr Regt have continued to be great supporters, especially 202 Fd Sqn who have so often volunteered their expertise and time when needed. Finally, our residents have also greatly enjoyed the company of the local air cadets.
From Monday 22nd to Saturday 27th June, we have a great opportunity to come together in reflection and celebration of those who serve.
Here’s a look at what we have planned:

Monday 22nd June | Swinton Flag Raising Ceremony

To officially mark the beginning of Armed Forces Week, a group of our residents and staff will travel to Swinton to attend the local civic flag-raising ceremony.
We’ll stand proud, shoulder-to-shoulder with serving members of the forces, saluting the flag and paying our respects.

Thursday 25th June | Coffee Morning with Sedgley Park Police

We’re delighted to be hosting a special coffee morning, with veterans from the Sedgley Park Police coming to join us.
This will provide our residents with a fantastic opportunity to share stories and connect with fellow veterans over a good brew.

Saturday 27th June (Armed Forces Day) | Broughton House Flag-Raising & Social

To round up the week’s events, our Wellbeing & Activities Co-ordinator has organised an on-site flag-raising ceremony, followed by coffee and cake in the Veterans’ Mess. As always, family members are more than welcome to come join us.
Our parade will begin at 10:00, and we invite any family members and guests attending who are serving or have served to join our residents in wearing their medals and berets with pride.

With thanks to our Armed Forces

Armed Forces Week is a time for us to celebrate and give thanks to those who serve. From everyone at Broughton House, we’d like to say thank you for everything you have done for our country and the resident veterans at our care home.
